  • Web Access to Email

Companies are finding that their workforce is becoming increasingly mobile.  At the same time, email has become a mission-critical service, so companies face the challenge of giving their employees access to email from any location.  Whether on the road, at a kiosk in an airport, or using a different computer, employees need to be able to access their email.

Netscape Messenger Express solves this problem by using a browser to access email via the web. Messenger Express is available through the most popular browsers, such as Netscape Communicator and Netscape Navigator, and provides users access to their email on Netscape Messaging Server, using Internet standards: Internet Mail Access Protocol (IMAP) for messaging, Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) for web access, and Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) for security.

    Leverages Your Investments

Messenger Express uses a browser to access email.  It supports the most popular browsers deployed in corporations:

    • Netscape Communicator 4.x
    • Netscape Navigator 4.x
    • Netscape Navigator 3.x
    • Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.x
    • Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.x
Messenger Express integrates with Netscape SuiteSpot servers by using the directory, messaging, and web services available through SuiteSpot.  In addition, Messenger Express uses Communicator's intuitive interface so corporations can leverage previous training.

    Location-Independent Access to Email

Messenger Express provides users access to email from any computer with a browser, either inside the company firewall or outside (using HTTP over SSL).  In addition, with Messenger Express, corporations can create kiosks throughout the company for quick access to email.

    Open Standards Support

Messenger Express supports the following Internet open standards:

    • Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) for web access.
    • Internet Mail Access Protocol (IMAP4) for retrieving email.
    • Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) for sending email.
    • Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (MIME) for sending and receiving messages with rich content types.
    • Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) for seamless directory services.
In addition, Messenger Express is built entirely on industry standards such as HTML and JavaScript.
