Third-Party Messaging Add-ons

Messaging Server | Calendar Server | Collabra Server

Messaging has become a mission-critical application, allowing coworkers to exchange email with embedded applications and multimedia-rich files. This explains why so many software developers are building products to complement and extend the capabilities of messaging.

Netscape and HP are partnering to deliver high-availability messaging services by integrating HP OpenView Ready technology into the next generation of Netscape messaging server software, code-named Troopers ISP.

Netscape and Wingra Technologies announced a relationship to provide a complete solution for enterprises migrating from Lotus cc:Mail, Microsoft Mail, Novell GroupWise, Microsoft Exchange, or Lotus Notes/Domino to Netscape Messaging.

Third-party add-ons fall into the following seven application categories:

Application Description Example
Voicemail Manage voicemail messages in your email in-box. Store, retrieve, and distribute (even to mailing lists) voice messages.
Fax Manage faxes in your email in-box. Use the Internet and World Wide Web to send faxes at the same cost as sending email.
Paging Send an email message to an alphanumeric pager. Email a text message to an alphanumeric pager, for example: "Mttg starts at 3:30. 123 Maple, #200. Bill" - all without picking up the phone. Or be alerted automatically to network outages through system-management applications.
Messaging integrated solutions Messaging solutions built on top of Netscape Messaging Server to provide custom services. A customer service mail enabled application that performs intelligent message routing and analysis and provides respones.
Messaging gateways Integrate multiple vendor messaging systems. Many organizations have multiple messaging systems, usually at the departmental level. Messaging gateways allow for rudimentary text message transfers between disparate systems.
Directory integration/ synchronization Synchronize directory services across multiple vendor messaging systems. Manage directory information in one place instead of in multiple systems.
Management and monitoring tools Efficiently monitor and manage your messaging system. Be aware of server performance issues before users start calling.

The following is a list of companies providing products and services complementary to Netscape's messaging solution.

Voicemail

JFAX Software
JFAX Personal Telecom allows you to get all your faxes and voicemail right in your email in-box and to send faxes from any application to any fax machine with savings up to 80 percent off long-distance rates. The JFAX customer simply clicks on the attached file, and free JFAX Communicator software automatically opens, for viewing or listening to messages. JFAX Fax/Send attaches a document to an email message, which is then sent. Get the message - at the office, at home, on the road, or halfway around the world. For information call 310/966-1800 or send email to info@jfax.com.

TraveLink Communications Server
TraveLink Communications Server, from SphereLink, provides voice, fax, and email message communications over the Internet, an intranet, and a public switched telephone network from any client device (web browser, email client, phone, fax machine, cellular phone, or pager). It accepts voice and fax messages and forwards them to Netscape Messaging Server as MIME attachments to email messages. This allows the user to play voicemail messages and view faxes using either a browser or a POP3/SMTP email client. For information call 408/452-8300 or send email to info@spherelink.com.

MagicFax
MagicFax, from Clarity Software, is an efficient and cost-effective fax-management application for the World Wide Web. Just as you would use the Internet to send email, MagicFax lets you route all your faxes over the Internet while providing detailed management reports of your usage. Faxes are sent by invoking the Print command in any application, which means that any document that can be printed can be faxed, including word-processing documents, spreadsheets, presentations, graphics, and even HTML pages. MagicFax consists of a set of web server-side plug-ins requiring no special setup like port configuration or security firewall modification. And because MagicFax services are implemented as web server functions, they can be protected by the password security system and use the existing web server accounting system already in place. The only information needed is the pager's PIN and modem number (for example, 12345.4155551212@pagenet.net), and the Internet email client, such as Netscape Messenger, sends an e-Worx message to the PageNet alphanumeric customer. For information call 800/724-3638 or send email to rene_bullock@pagenet.com.

Mustang Software's Internet Message Center (IMC) routes, queues, reports, and manages all inbound email messages written to sales@company.com, support@company.com, or webmaster@company.com. Each inbound message is acknowledged, assigned a unique tracking number, and queued for an agent group. Ensure every message or web-based inquiry gets a timely answer, and easily track the number of email messages arriving at your site, the average queue, and agent response times. Agents use any POP3 message client to read and respond to mail. Managers can view real time statistics or generate reports, using the built-in HTML report generator. IMC works with any POP3/SMTP server and any POP3 message client software.
