What is the Netscape Standard Browser Distribution program? The Netscape Standard Browser Distribution program is a program that allows companies to redistribute Netscape browsers free of charge. Members must register, agree to the terms and conditions, and submit quarterly reports. Netscape Communicator and Netscape Navigator Standard Edition browsers may be distributed on many platforms and in many localized languages.

How much does participation in the Standard Browser Distribution program cost? The Standard Browser Distribution program is free of charge to registered program members.

Do the free Netscape products include technical support? No. However, various support options are available for individuals to choose from, including getting free information from our web site or by calling 800/411-0707 to purchase answers to questions.

Can I distribute software that I have obtained from the download page of the Netscape web site? Yes, if your end users already have access and do not need a dial-up version of the software and if you are a registered member of our program. However, we have created a special download site for program members with dial-up versions of the software for easy dial-in access by modem. If you wish to distribute a version of the software that is not available on the members-only site, you may obtain it from the general download page.

Is the software available for download on the Members Resources page different from that on the Netscape download page? The browser software is the same whether it is downloaded free or purchased on a CD-ROM. However, the software on the members-only site has some extra features to make it even easier for you to distribute. For example, we've added a dial-up kit to Communicator that allows end users who don't currently have Internet access to sign up with an Internet service provider. We've also provided information about how to receive support for Netscape software so that users won't have to contact you directly. As a Standard Browser Distribution program participant, you may choose to distribute either or both versions of the software to your customers and prospects without paying a licensing fee.

Can I make changes to the browser software before distributing it? Yes, by joining Netscape's Custom Browser Distribution program. This program allows participants to create customized browsers for distribution, and provides participants with all the guidelines, software, tools, and support options necessary to create unique versions of Netscape browser software.

I'm an ISP and I'd like to add my own dial-up kit before distributing Netscape software. How do I do this? Join Netscape's Custom Browser Distribution program, which allows ISPs to customize dial-up versions of Navigator and Communicator. In addition to exciting co-branding customization options, ISPs can create custom account setup and installation packages that best fit their co-branding customization options and their distribution needs. You may choose to join either or both of the Standard and the Customized Browser Distribution programs.

Why do I have to agree to terms and conditions if the browser software is free? The browser software is free to individuals. However, if you want to redistribute the software to five or more people, you must agree to the Unlimited Browser Distribution program terms and conditions, regardless of where you get the software. These standard terms and conditions prohibit participants from decompiling Netscape software, which ensures our product quality. The registration process is automated and takes only about 10 minutes.

Why do I have to report distribution? Netscape asks you to report distribution each quarter so we can track distribution and adoption rates. This information is helpful to us as we plan future programs similar to the Unlimited Browser Distribution program.

How do I report distribution? To report your distribution, simply go to the Member Resources page and click Quarterly Report.

How can I distribute a version of Netscape software that's not from the Member Resources page? Netscape has created convenient dial-up distribution versions of our most popular browser software. If you'd like a language or operating system version that is not available from the Member Resources page, you may download it from the general download page. However, you must still complete the registration form.

Do I need to register for both the Standard and the Custom Browser Distribution program? You need to register on both forms only if you are planning to distribute both the standard and the custom version of the browser; otherwise, you need register only for the program you are utilizing.

Where can I find the Netscape logo and usage guidelines? For logo usage and guidelines, please visit Netscape Now, a Netscape logo usage program. This program offers information on how to display the Netscape logo or other buttons on your web site, CD-ROM labels, packaging, or other promotional material.

Can I put Communicator and Internet Explorer on the same CD or web site? There are no restrictions in the Standard or Custom Browser Distribution Guidelines that prohibit you from placing Communicator and Internet Explorer on the same CD or web site; however, as a Netscape Browser Distribution program member, we request that you give Communicator a prominent placement.

How do I confirm that I am an authorized distribution member after I register? Unless you receive an error message, your application has been accepted. If you receive an error message, email the date and time of the error message to questions_clientdistribution@netscape.com. We will assist you in registering and will address the error.

Where can I report a bug I find in Communicator or Navigator? If you would like to report a bug in Communicator or Navigator, please go to http://help.netscape.com/forms/bug-client.html.

If you have questions, please send email to questions_clientdistribution@netscape.com.
