The World Wide Web
The World Wide Web is the part of the Internet where information is presented in a highly visual format-often interactive and multimedia-enhanced. Web pages are frequently linked to other Web pages, so that you can click on a piece of text or graphic and automatically be transported to the linked page. This is called browsing, navigating, or surfing the Web.
You cruise the Web using a piece of software called a Web browser, such as Netscape Navigator (shown in Figure 1.4). You learn more about the Netscape Navigator browser in Lesson 3, "A Ten-Minute Netscape Communicator Primer."
Because the World Wide Web is the most popular part of the Internet, we'll explore the Web in more depth through the next few sections of this lesson.
