A Guided Tour of Netscape Netcenter
Now that you know about the major parts of Netscape Netcenter, let's take a quick tour of the site.
- Start your tour by pointing your Web browser to home.netscape.com.
- Take a look at today's news headlines on the right of the page; click a headline to read the full story.
- Check the price of your favorite stock; enter the ticker symbol in the Stock Quotes box and click the Quote button.
- Look for the latest business news; click the Business link to display the Business channel. While you're in the Business channel, do a little background check on a company you're thinking of investing in by clicking the Research a Company link; when the Company Lookup page appears, enter the name or ticker symbol of the company, and click the Submit button. When the page for that company appears, click any link for more detailed information.
- Click the Home link on the You Are Here bar to return to the Netscape Netcenter home page.
- Check out some of the Web's newest sites by clicking the What's New link. Click any link to access the listed site. Return to the Netscape Netcenter home page when you're done.
- Take a tour of the Web's coolest sites by clicking the What's Cool link. The What's Cool page (see Figure 2.5) includes several different sections with links to various types of cool sites. Return to the Netscape Netcenter home page when you're done.
- Search the Web for some specific information. Enter what you want to search for in the Search the Web box at the top of the page and click the Search button. The search results are returned on a separate page; click any link to view that specific page. Return to the Netscape Netcenter home page when you're done.
- Search for the phone number of a local business; click the Yellow Pages link to display the Yellow Pages page. From this page, enter the company's name, city, and state in the appropriate blanks, then click the Search button. Companies matching your search are displayed on a new Listings page; just click the About button next to the company's name to display its phone number and other information. Return to the Netscape Netcenter home page when you're done.
- Send an email message to a friend; click the WebMail link to sign up for the Netscape WebMail service (read Lesson 12, "Communicating with Email," to learn how to send and receive WebMail messages). Return to the Netscape Netcenter home page when you're done.

- Take a minute to create your own personal start page; click the My Netscape link to display a generic My Netscape page. Click the appropriate buttons (described in Lesson 8, "Personalizing Your Portal with My Netscape") to customize this page.
That's all there is to it-Netscape Netcenter is rich in features but still easy to use. Most of the lessons in this book show you how to use specific Netcenter features in detail, so turn the page and start learning!
