To use SmartUpdate, follow these steps:

1. From the Netscape Netcenter home page, click the SmartUpdate link (or, you can click the SmartUpdate button on the Netscape Navigator toolbar).
2. When the SmartUpdate page appears, click the Click Here to Begin button.
3. When the Component & Add-On Selection page appears (see Figure 4.1), check those items you want to download. The Status column indicates for each item whether it is already installed (so you don't have to download it again!), whether it is not installed, or whether it is previously installed but has an update available.

   Download Locally  For faster and more efficient downloading, select the download location nearest to you.

   
   

4. Scroll down to the bottom of the Component & Add-On Selection page and select the location you want to download from.
5. Click the Start Download & Installation button.
6. The SmartUpdate Download Manager window appears (see Figure 4.2). The selected software is now downloaded and automatically installed on your computer, as monitored in a separate Download Progress window.

7. If a Java Security dialog box appears, click the Grant button.
8. If you have more than one item to download and install, you are returned to the SmartUpdate Download Manager window. Click the Continue button to proceed to the next download.
9. When all the software is completely installed, close the SmartUpdate Download Manager window.
