Downloading Files from Netscape Download
To find and download a file from Netscape Download, follow these steps:
- From the Netscape Netcenter home page (home.netscape.com), click the Download icon.
- When the Download page appears, click the shareware category you want to search.
- When the category page appears, either click a subcategory or enter the name of the software you're looking for in the Search Shareware box and click the Search button.
- Once you've found the specific program you want to download, click the Click Here to Download link.
- The next page lists all the locations from which you can download the program. Click the location nearest to you to proceed.
- Netscape SmartDownload automatically launches and downloads the software into your computer's My Download Files directory.
Once the software is downloaded, follow the instructions to install the software on your personal computer.

Unzipping Files Many program files are very large, and thus are compressed in some way to shorten downloading times. The most popular compression system used over the Internet is called zip. Compress-ed files are said to be "zipped," and have a .zip extension; to decompress a zip file you "unzip" it. While there are many zip/unzip programs available for downloading from Netscape Download, NetZIP is a program that integrates with SmartDownload to unzip your files automatically.
