Selling an Item via Auction
To place an item for sale on the Netscape Auction Center, follow these steps: |
| 1. |
Go to the main Classifieds page by clicking the Classifieds link on the Netscape Netcenter home page.
| 2. |
Click the Auction Center link. |
| 3. |
When the Category Index appears, click the Auction an Item link.
| 4. |
When the Place Ads page appears, click the category in which you want to list your item.
| 5. |
When the next page appears, click the appropriate subcategory for your item.
| 6. |
When the sign-in page appears, enter your user ID and password and click Continue. (If you're a first-time visitor, click the I Need a User ID link and follow the directions there; you'll need to supply some personal information, including your name and email address.)
| 7. |
When the Place Ads page appears, enter the category-specific information about your item, as well as the opening bid for your item; this should be the lowest price you'll accept. Also make sure you set your Auction Ends date.
|
Open Low To help get the bidding going, your opening bid should be significantly lower than what you expect the item to sell for. A good rule of thumb is to set your opening bid at 10 percent of the amount you expect the item to sell for. For example, if you expect the item to sell for $100, your opening bid should be $10. |
| 8. |
Click the Preview Ad button to review your ad; if you like what you see, click the Place My Ad button. |
| 9. |
When the auction is over, you will be notified by email of the identity of the winning bidder. You should contact the buyer within three business days of the close of the auction and arrange payment and shipping. |
|
If You Can't Contact the High Bidder First, double-check the bidder's email address by sending an email to
auction-support@ classifieds2000.com and requesting the user's contact information. If at least three business days go by without a return message from the high bidder, you can move on to the next highest bidder. |
|
Extend Your Auction If no one has bid on your item, you can extend your auction for another 3 to 14 days. When your auction ends you will be sent an email to notify you your auction is over. This email will have a link to your ad. Go to this link to extend your ad and to make any changes you want to. You may want to consider lowering your opening bid, adding a photo, or adding to your description to help get the bidding going. |
In this lesson you learned about the ad and auction services offered by Netscape Netcenter. In the next lesson you leave Netscape Netcenter's services and move on to its content, in the form of channels.
