Lesson Content

Monster.com has more than 170,000 job listings in its massive database; Netscape Career Center helps you search through those listings to find the jobs you want!

To search the online job listings, just follow these steps:

  1. From Netscape Netcenter's home page (home.netcenter.com), click the Careers link and go to the Job Search Database section.
  1. For a simple search, select a job category from the first pull-down list, select a desired location from the second pull-down list, and then click the Search! button.

  2. For a more sophisticated search, enter keywords that describe the position you're seeking into the Keyword box, and then click the Search! button.

What's the Key?  Keywords are words, phrases, terms, and so on that describe technical and professional experience. Examples include UNIX, programmer, SAP, sales, COBOL, human resources, ORACLE, FORTRAN, marketing, and advertising.

  3. The Search Results page tells you how many jobs that match your search criteria were found. Jobs are listed by date posted, location (country, state, city), job title, and company name; the most recent jobs posted appear at the top of the list. To narrow the list, enter one or more keywords into the keyword search box, and click the Subsearch button. To see the actual job posting, click the job title. (Cities and states can also be used as keywords.)
  4. When the full job listing appears, follow the onscreen instructions for how to contact the employer about the job. Many listings let you email the employer or hiring agency, or apply for the job online by clicking the Apply Online link.

Agent  An agent is a software program that automatically searches for predefined information.
